ColieCo x Nicola Hanrahan - Unveiling The New Collection!
Today, we are excited to be announcing the launch of our new collection created in collaboration with super-talented illustrator and pattern designer Nicola Hanrahan!
The GOLDFINCH & ASTERS collection features two ColieCo customer favourite sets - LOTTIE and POPPY - as well as a new lightweight bralette and low waist, peep bum knicker design - ASTER - all brought to life in a stunning teal and gold print.
Nicola and I have known each other a long time; we received our graduate training at the same place, Leeds Arts University (although that is not how we met), and I am proud to be able to call her a best friend. I am also a big fan of her work, and I am sure you'll see why!
Nicola is an artist who works primarily with watercolours and whose focus is on nature and wildlife illustration.
Her beautiful designs feature on products ranging from bags to soft furnishings to cards, as well as in private commissions.
Nicola has this to say about her unique work:
“I translate my love of nature into art by incorporating hand drawn illustrations with digitally created patterns. This passion for wildlife, pretty tea sets and delicious cakes comes from my childhood growing up in Yorkshire; going on many beautiful walks in the Yorkshire Dales and visits to quaint country tea rooms, something that I still love to do at any opportunity!
"British garden birds in particular are a key part in my work, as I have cherished memories of watching them in my mum’s and granny’s charming gardens.”
To print Nicola's illustrations onto the fabric used in the GOLDFINCH & ASTERS collection, we've worked with a family-run print shop in Yorkshire located close to where both Nicola and I grew up.
It's important to me that I work with other small, independent businesses where I can, and they've done an amazing job: they offered a wonderfully personal service and the the print quality is fantastic.
As importantly for me, the print image has been applied by digital printing to minimise energy use and water and material waste, in accordance with our eco-friendly production principles.
I have been super-excited about the prospect of working with Nicola for a long time. ColieCo’s aesthetic has always included a lot of elements echoed in Nicola's designs: influences from nature, bright colours and a sense of fun! And the GOLDFINCH & ASTERS print ticks all of those boxes!
