About ColieCo

ColieCo produces ethically-made, sustainable lingerie, underwear and swimwear in our own in-house studio in Sagres, Portugal.

With our uniquely fun, simple, striking designs we aim to change the way in which people think about sustainable fashion. Because we believe that women shouldn't have to choose between aesthetically-pleasing but exploitative fast fashion, and sustainably and ethically produced but drab, grey and brown alternatives.

Our story

Hi! I am Nicole Coates, founder of ColieCo Lingerie.

ColieCo started in the UK more than ten years ago as a part-time student project in my parents' attic.

Studying fashion design, it quickly became clear to me that the fashion and textiles industries had serious issues with sustainability and with working conditions, up and down the supply chain.

And although more brands demonstrating a focus on making improvements in these areas were appearing, in the lingerie domain in particular, the options for ethical and eco-conscious consumers were slim, expensive and for the most part wholly uninspiring.

There was a big gap to be filled, and ColieCo was born with a vow to prove that ethical and sustainable underwear could still be fun, adventurous and affordable. We've come a long way since then, moving our operation to Portugal, and now manufacturing in our second purpose designed-and-built studio.

Our mission

Our mission is to change the way in which people think about ethical and sustainable clothing.

There's no transition to an ethical and sustainable future for the fashion industry if slow fashion isn't able to inspire and excite people interested in exploring ethical alternatives. Or if only a small fraction of consumers can afford ethical options.

Without attractive and accessible competition, there's no incentive for the industry to change.

Our lingerie and swimwear collections aim to do just that: widen the marketplace for conscious consumers, make ethical and green alternatives fun again, and help bin the 'grey, beige and brown' stereotype once and for all.

Respect for people All ColieCo products are produced in the ColieCo Studio by highly skilled workers paid a full and fair living wage. The ColieCo Studio is a safe, comfortable and discrimination-free working environment, and is certified as a SANE Standard facility for garment production.  We partner with other small, independent businesses who share our commitments to their employees, and we expect those we work with throughout the supply chain to meet international standards on labour rights and protections. Respect for the planet We use only carefully-selected natural origin, recycled and reclaimed fabrics; manufacture to order and use intelligent cutting processes to minimise textile waste; and work with local suppliers to control our carbon footprint. Our studio and office are powered with 100% renewable energy, we package orders using exclusively plastic-free recycled-and-recyclable materials, and we use 100% carbon offset shipping. Respect for quality ColieCo garments are made with high quality materials and hand-crafted to the highest of standards.
