About our fabrics

At ColieCo we take the utmost care in sourcing the fabrics we use to make your lingerie and swimwear. Because we are a proudly eco-centric business, we demand that each of the fabrics we use is either:

• made from an inherently sustainable and sustainably processed natural fibre

• made primarily from recycled materials, or

• reclaimed from fashion industry dead stock, line-ends or off-cuts otherwise destined for landfill.

Because we are determined to deliver you garments of the highest quality, we will only ever use material we judge to be of the highest quality.

RPET recycled collection by ColieCo Lingerie

RPET recycled polyester

(85% recycled polyester, 15% elastane)

Our RPET fabric is lightweight, super smooth and stretchy. It is made in Europe from 85% RPET recycled polyester, 100% of which comes from recycled PET plastic drink bottles, and is sustainably printed for ColieCo in Portugal.

Recycled polyester requires less energy to produce, with around 75% lower CO2 emissions when compared with virgin polyester. It also requires around 90% less water - a negligible amount compared with water super-intensive natural fibres like cotton. And maybe most importantly, it helps keep plastic bottles out of landfill and out of our waterways and oceans.

The fabric carries both OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 and Global Recycled Standard certifications.

Bamboo silk

(100% bamboo)

The bamboo silk fabric used in our ARAYA lingerie collection is soft, light, lustrous and highly breathable.

It is made from ECOCERT certified organically-grown bamboo sourced from FSC certified forests, and manufactured in a closed-loop process with ISO 14000 Environmental Management certification.

It also carries OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification, meaning that it is guaranteed free from harmful substances.

Not only does our bamboo silk tick the sustainability and quality boxes, but as the rest of the ColieCo Lingerie collection, it is also a 100% vegan material.

Bamboo jersey

(95% bamboo, 5% elastane)

The bamboo jersey fabric used in our Bamboo lingerie collection is light, breathable and super soft. It is also made from organically-grown bamboo processed in a closed loop system, and carries OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification, meaning that it is guaranteed free from harmful substances.

Bamboo jersey has many environmental benefits over traditional cotton jersey, with bamboo producing a high-density, high-yield crop, sequestering much higher amounts of CO2 than even young forests, minimising soil erosion, and requiring no irrigation, pesticides or fertilisers.

Reclaimed mesh

(nylon, elastane)

Our power mesh fabric - a strong, firm knit with a four way stretch and a super smooth finish - is sourced from suppliers who reclaim unwanted deadstock, line-ends and off-cut material directly from end-manufacturers producing collections for some of the world's largest lingerie brands.

This material can include entire rolls that have been rejected by manufacturers due to small flaws in the fabric, which they are unwilling to work around.

With intelligent garment design and minimal waste cutting processes we are able to offer these fabrics a second chance at life.

Reclaimed scuba jersey

(polyester, elastane)

The scuba jersey material used in our Reclaimed Prints collection is sourced from suppliers who rescue line-ends and off-cuts directly from end-manufacturers.

These fabrics have a strong four-way stretch, provide support and light contouring, and have been digitally-printed - a process which minimises water use and water waste.

Because our suppliers are often reclaiming only very small off-cuts, we often only have very short runs of the fabrics in our scuba jersey fabric grid. So remember to keep checking back for new fabrics - and to grab your sets in your favourites before they're gone!

Reclaimed swimwear lycra

(20% lycra, 80% nylon)

The lycra we use in our new swimwear collection is deadstock fabric, rescued by our suppliers having been rejected and abandoned by luxury swimwear brands.

This can happen because the brands have decided not to use the fabric having misbought, overbought or abandoned planned lines. Historically, much of this fabric would have ended up in landfill or the incinerator.

This luxury matte fabric is a super soft and stretchy lycra/nylon blend, knitted in Italy, and features UV protection and chlorine, suncream, oil and pilling resistance.
